Sara Stanger, MPH
Colville/Umatilla/Nez Perce/Coeur D’Alene
Program Assistant II, Tribal Health Scholars

Sara was born in Grand Coulee Washington. She is enrolled Colville Confederated tribes and she is the Moses/Columbia and Lakes bands. She grew up mostly in Coulee Dam which is located on the Colville Reservation along the Lake Roosevelt River. The last three years of high school, she moved to Okanogan Washington to finish high school.

After high school, Sara attended a few different community colleges to find her passion. She was a student athletic trainer, certified pharmacy technician, and has worked several different positions as a military dependent. Sara resided overseas for 11 years and lived in 4 different countries that include: Turkey, Italy, England and Belgium. When Covid-19 hit, she decided to go back to school, clenching her Bachelor’s in Health Science and immediately after she went into her Master of Public Health program, graduating in 2024. Sara has worked with youth as an AAU basketball coach, through mentorship and as an educator. When living overseas, Sara shared her culture with the local elementary/middle schools to stay connected to her culture, educating on her people.

Sara grew up in community, whether it meant her own community or the military community. She attended longhouse, powwows, rodeos, and basketball tournaments. She has always known that she wanted to give back to her own community someday whether it was through health education/promotion, advocacy or mentorship. Since she arrived back to the United States in 2023, she has been able to do this specifically for urban Native American youth in Spokane and Seattle greater area. She is excited to be working the NNACoE and the ability to work with her tribe and other tribes’ communities in Eastern Washington.

In Sara’s free time, she likes to attend events such as powwows, coastal jams, concerts or attending/playing in all-Indian basketball tournaments. Since being home, Sara is happy to spend more time with family/friends and attend yearly events that she grew up attending such as: Omak Stampede and Pendleton Round-up.
