Katie Martin, MD, MPH
Cherokee Nation
Assistant Director of Education Initiatives

Dr. Martin grew up in Southwest Washington State, near the base of Loowit (Mt. St. Helens). She spent a lot of time outside backpacking, berry picking, and enjoying the mountains with her family. She loves working for NNACoE because she believes that Indigenous people should not only receive better health care services, they are needed in health care careers to bring Indigenous histories, cultures, and collective strength to heal and rebuild a medical system with roots in colonial practices and inequities. Dr. Martin trained at University of Washington for both medical school and for her internal medicine residency. She works as a primary care physician practicing medicine as a general internist for the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde. At NNACoE, she works with communities to build Native Health curricula that is community driven and honoring of Indigenous people around Oregon and the United States. The curricula help trainees and providers learn from the strength and wisdom of Indigenous communities. Outside of work, Dr. Martin enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter as they spend time outside and try to grow as many different plants as possible.
