Dr. Empey was raised in McMinnville, Oregon and is a citizen of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde. She spent 10 years in California attending Stanford University for her undergraduate, working as a healthcare consultant, and attending University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. She was excited to return home to Oregon near her family, tribe and the beautiful landscape of the Pacific Northwest. She is an Associate Professor and Vice Chair of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in the Department of Pediatrics. Clinically she attends in the newborn nursery and practices one day per week in her own tribal clinic, Grand Ronde Health & Wellness. Her professional interests include newborn care, Native American child health, community engagement, and mentorship for underrepresented in medicine learners. Outside of the clinic, Dr. Empey enjoys spending time with her husband running and hiking in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, snuggling with her dogs, and reading.
